The Faldo Futures has rapidly emerged as an important stepping stone for young golfers throughout the United Kingdom seeking to engage in the game. Supported by the R&A and England Golf, this junior development initiative started by the Faldo Series in 2024 provides any child aged 7 to 12 with an enjoyable and accessible introduction to golf, offering them a meaningful first experience of the game.

In just its second season, the Faldo Futures has witnessed remarkable growth, with participation doubling from its inaugural year. Over 2,000 young golfers have competed in more than 100 qualifying events held across the UK between March and May 2025. The initiative’s ability to attract such widespread interest demonstrates the growing demand for structured, yet enjoyable, competitive experiences for junior golfers, as well as the significant contribution golf clubs make in supporting grassroots talent.

“It’s been fantastic to watch the Futures grow since its inception last year,” remarked Matthew Faldo, Director of the Faldo Series. “More juniors playing is great for the game, and it’s also proving to be a valuable opportunity for golf clubs who choose to host, with their tee sheets full of new juniors. This initiative is about creating a fun, inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to experience playing golf with others their age, which is exactly what the game needs.”

Several venues have demonstrated exceptional support for the program this season, with Sunbury Golf Club in Surrey and The Club at High Legh Park in Cheshire each hosting 47 junior participants. Carus Green in Cumbria welcomed 35 young golfers, while Troon Welbeck in Ayrshire hosted 34. These venues have not only embraced the initiative but have fostered strong community involvement, making the Faldo Futures an integral part of their junior golf development efforts.

Key partnerships have also played a crucial role in the success of the Futures. Collaborations with the Stephen Gallacher Foundation in Scotland and the Robert Rock Junior Golf Tour in the Midlands have enabled more co-sanctioned events, providing young players with valuable competitive experience and a structured pathway forward. Additionally, partners such as Crown Golf and The Club Company have been instrumental in supporting the initiative. Their involvement helps sustain and expand the program, ensuring that the Futures remains a cornerstone of the junior golf schedule and further integrates it into the broader golf community.

With the qualifying stages now complete, focus shifts to the Regional Finals scheduled for the May half-term and June. More than 600 players will compete for an invitation to the Faldo Futures Final at The Belfry, hosted by Sir Nick Faldo himself during the British Masters.

Looking ahead, the Faldo Futures has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, marked by record participation and strong support from clubs and communities. As the program continues to grow, the energy around junior golf in the UK is growing stronger, and the future looks full of opportunity.

Registration for clubs to host a Faldo Futures event in 2026 will open on June 2nd. This presents an excellent opportunity for all clubs to support junior golf and expand their junior sections.
