The Isle of Purbeck offered picturesque views over Poole harbour as junior players from across the UK descended on the South Coast of England for the final Summer event in the UK. The hot and dry UK Summer meant the course was particularly firm, and players would need to stay patient and manage their games to come out on top. All three rounds offered strong tidal winds for the players, and conditions proved difficult throughout the week.
Walton Heath Golf Club’s junior section was well represented at the final presentation ceremony, and it was Lewis Dimuyuga who took the overall title to win by 6 shots from his closest competitor. Dimayuga had been a model of consistency throughout the Summer on the Faldo Junior Tour schedule as he looked to secure WAGR status. With rounds of 72, 74 and 76, he literally blew away the field for a comprehensive victory. In the Boys 21 & Under category, his nearest challenger was Welshman Ted Ballard.
In the Boys 16 & Under category, Lancashire’s Daniel Clutton secured his place in the European Grand Final in Al Ain with a magnificent final round of 74 to put some pressure on Dimuyuga on the back nine. The Bolton Old Links member, Clutton, birdied the final hole to take a three-shot victory over Jack Robinson from Walton Heath. 13-year-old Robinson stayed calm throughout the three days and battled to an excellent second-place finish within the category.
It was another Walton Heath member, Holly Justice, who took the Girls title and gained her WAGR status. Justice won the Girls 16 & Under category as well as the Girls title with rounds of 77, 85 and 79 in very difficult conditions. Chelmsford’s Lily Hawes was second, four shots behind. In the Girls 21 & Under category, runner-up at The Astbury earlier in August, Izzy Hurrion from Little Aston secured her place in Al Ain for the Europe Grand Final with a four-shot victory. Hurrion edged out Wentworth’s Heidi Man, who finished second.
Among the high scorers, there was still some joy for some of the other players. During the event, we saw two players record holes in one. On day one, Henry Kyle holed out on the 194-yard 11th whilst a final round ace on the 4th hole, with a 7 iron, brought a smile to Ambrose Eaves.
The Isle of Purbeck rounded off a fantastic August in England with three events in four weeks, with strong fields in all three events. Overall, 252 players competed in the English events in August, showing the strength and popularity of the Faldo Junior Tour among the British junior golfers in particular. There are now just two events left in Great Britain in 2026 during the October Half Term in South England and Wales.
