The inaugural 2024 Faldo Futures is underway after much anticipation, with 50 venues across the UK playing host to the next generation of golfers. Wild weather hasn’t stopped more than 900 kids from signing up to participate in the first round of qualifying events with some impressive scores to show.

Woodbury Park hosted the first event of the season and put on a great day for its 51 participants. Winner of the day in the boys 11-12 age division was Archie Griffiths with a fantastic score of -3 (32), winning by a margin of 5 shots over second place Harry Cann who shot +2 (37). Other winners included George Cann, who won the boy’s 9-10 division with a score of +3 (38) and Isla Schofield who won the girl’s 11-12 division with a score of +7 (42). Nick Lawson, Resort Director, commented, “Our event was fantastic, and it was just so brilliant to see youngsters get out on the course and enjoy themselves. We’re certainly thrilled to have staged it.”

Scottish highland’s Kingussie Golf Club is no stranger to some difficult conditions which proved to be a challenge for its 35 players. Winner of the boys 9-10 age division Brody Maciver stated they had “rain, wind and hailstones” but was more than happy with his score of +3 (38). Ellis Geddes also took out the boys 11-12 age division with a score of +3 (38).

Cleveland Golf Club in the northeast of England managed to avoid most of the bad weather which resulted in some great scores by some of their up-and-coming talent. Cleveland local Lewi O’Rourke won his division with a fantastic bogey free -2 (33) which included an eagle on the par 5 second. Tilly Bordman in the girls 9-10 age division won her category with an impressive +2 (37), highlights of her round included a birdie at the difficult par 4 fifth.

More Faldo Futures Qualifying Events are due to take place over the coming weeks, with winners of each event earning an invitation to one of six Regional Finals held across the UK. Winners of The Regional Finals will find themselves playing at The National Final on August 28th, the week of The British Masters, where they’ll find themselves brushing shoulders with some of the greats of the game, including Sir Nick Faldo himself.
