The Faldo Junior Tour returned to Nepal this week, with 41 players competing across three days at Royal Nepal Golf Club in Kathmandu—marking another significant milestone in expanding junior competitive golf opportunities in the Himalayan nation.
Prakrit Tamang claimed both the Overall Championship and the Boys Under 21 title, rallying from three shots back on the final day to post an even-par 68 and finish at nine over par. His 54-hole total of 213 secured a two-stroke victory over overnight leader Swapnil Bhattarai, who closed with a 73 to finish at 11 over.
Tamang’s final round featured two eagles—on the first and fourth holes—alongside a birdie on the eighth to build momentum on the front nine. He turned in one-under 33, erasing Bhattarai’s lead and taking control of the tournament. Despite dropped shots on the 14th and 17th holes after the turn, Tamang’s composure held through the closing stretch.
In the Boys Under 16 division, Soham Agrawal secured a four-shot victory, finishing at 17 over par after rounds of 74-68-79. Reuben Thapa claimed second place at 21 over, closing with a solid 74 in the final round.
The Girls division produced the tournament’s tightest finish. Avanie Rai, competing in her second consecutive Faldo Junior Tour event, edged out the United Kingdom’s Amelie Lo Giudice by a single stroke after both players entered the final round tied. Lo Giudice held a two-shot advantage through the front nine, but Rai responded with a stronger back nine to secure the title. The narrow margin underscored the competitive depth and resilience shown by both players across challenging conditions.
Category winners earn invitations to the 17th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at Laguna Lang Co in Vietnam from 22–24 April 2026, where they will join qualifiers from across the region on a Sir Nick Faldo-designed championship course.
The event was organised by the Nepal Golf Association, with support from the Royal Nepal Golf Club, and represents a meaningful step in broadening access to international junior golf pathways. For many participants, the tournament offered a first opportunity to compete in a globally recognised series, with direct qualification routes to regional finals previously unavailable in Nepal.
NGA President Tashi Ghale, alongside representatives from Bagmati Province Golf Association and Royal Nepal Golf Club, presented prizes to the winners following the final round. The event continues to establish a foundation for future tournaments and signals growing engagement with competitive junior golf across the country.
